My mom and I bought tickets to see the Beauty and the Beast musical some while ago, so yeah. The production was staged at the KLCC Convention Center (ask me where that is if you're local and I'll suck it to you).
As is Malaysian style, the show began a whole 20 minutes late; and I don't even think there was a single V.I.P. in that particular crowd. Mom and I booked rather late as planning a free day was really mind-boggling so...as you can see...
...we didn't get very good seats.
If I had to rate the musical in its entirety on a scale of 1 to 10, this one gets a somewhat satisfactory 6.5.
Don't get me wrong, the music was good and so was the acting and vocals were splendidly enticing. What was lacking though is the lack of eye-catching props and the flow of the story is anything but smoothe. The story's beginning and parts before the intermission were very slow-paced for some reason and really ate too much time; yet after the intermission, scenes seemed to change seconds after the other and the flow was severely rushed - it just ruined the overall impact one would have watching this classic fantasy in it's original movie form.
Anyone who knows me well enough would surely know I put 'story' before any other aspect when judging a media presentation. So while the comedy was strong (absolutely love Lumiere the candlestick) and costumes and choreography were decent, I've really seen better.
The cast at the end of the show
Just a tip, if you wanna catch a really AMAZING musical (and I mean one of those mind-blowing, head-popping, heart-wrenchingly spectacular musical's), swing on by to the majestic city of London and catch The Phantom of the Opera. Trust me, that one's worth it. The best I've ever seen locally was The Life of P.Ramlee - which is undoubtedly good and worthy of a standing ovation itself (though our local singers need major help).
*Sighs* I wish better productions come here in the future.
