Yep, that's what HSM 3 stands for in short.
I've been hearing some pretty mixed reviews about this one. Some people say it's one of the best movies they've ever watched, some say it's so-so, and then there are the people who plain outright hate the freaking guts outta it. As for myself? I really can't say, so someone else be the judge. On a scale of 1-10, what would I give it? A reasonable score of 6. Why? (oh and I so love asking rhetorical questions that I honestly don't expect anyone else to answer).
So, *ahem* why the 6? (as in, why minus 4 points?) List:
Well, there you go, the four infractions.
What I did like about the movie however was, for one, the brilliant opening it had. No, don't give me that look, it WAS actually brilliant, starting things out with the last (and most crucial) basketball game of the year. The opening number "Now or Never" went perfectly with the scene and reintroduced most of the characters in their rightful elements; Ryan being the Wildcat mascot if my eyes weren't deceiving me - might just watch that part again someday to be sure.
I can't say most of the songs were very memorable this time round but they were certainly nice tunes. I really only like the fast numbers when the whole cast of back-up dancers join in and do some energetic dance sequence together; it makes it more musical-ish, which is what I like to see and hear - music that makes you wanna just get up and dance. If I had to choose, I guess my favorite would be the scene where they performed "A Night to Remember" (the staged-prom scene), especially since everyone was actually in it, save for the finale.
As for the duet pieces, I guess I quite liked the part with both leads learning to waltz on the school roof to "Can I Have This Dance". Also, Troy and Chad's "The Boys Are Back" in the junkyard was a fun watch, namely the part they turned into little kiddies. Their dancing in that scene was pretty cool too. None of the solos seem to stick in my head though. Guess they weren't all that enticing this time.
So, my conclusion? Nice movie, not very convincing male lead. Yeah, I probably have something of a bone-to-pick with Zac Afron but it's not like I hate the guy, just think he needs to lose the over-dramatic-ness about his acting in this particular movie.
And finally, the movie made me think about my own high school days that are now long gone. Believe it or not, it made me realize - I DO miss high school. Gosh, and I thought I'd never actually say that, let alone believe it! Heh. So the movie was worth the watch for something, if not anything.
One more reason why I'll remember and treasure watching it forever? Well, I drove there (Summit, yeah it's near, don't get all bent outta shape!), on my own, without my parents. Of course, my bro was with me - can't exactly go watching a movie like HSM 3 by myself now can I? People'd think I was seriously emo or something XP
I REALLY like driving~
And yeah, to all my high school peeps out there (who probably don't read this blog anyways), I miss ya!!! ^_^
