2.3.09 -- Another Cousin's Turn

Well, so I've been trying to update my blog over the past several days, only to have each attempt foiled by Malaysia's annoyingly-unpredictable downpour patterns - now that's one thing I won't miss about this country: the thunderstorms. Either way, with lots and LOTS of luck, people will actually be reading this post and I won't end up having written it for (a big fat) nothing. Nice~ ^_^

So, breezing through the past week, several interesting things have happened - from Actor's Studio, Bangsar closing down to my home kitchen being upgraded to Mimi's kidnapping and to my chance in getting to drive mom's awsomesauce [note: got this word off hyper-button, who probably got it off who-knows-where/who] Toyota Camry.

Yep, as one can see, things have been pretty rollercoaster-ish as of late. Of course, even with all that mambo-jumbo having taken place, the highlight of the week is without a doubt something (grand) else entirely. So, what do you think when you see stuff like these...

Well? Got it yet? What about these...

If you haven't gotten it by now you're REAL slow, lol.

I suppose I just give it to you by this point, huh?

Well, ladies and gentlemen, it was another one of my cousin's weddings (the traditional Akad Nikah part - signing of the marriage contract thingy) which was held just two days ago in their house. Let me just say, not much of a journey for me seeing as this cousin happens to be my neighbour. Sweet huh? Well, not all the time really (but we'll leave things at that) XD

Honestly, I tend to look forward to weddings, but lately, it's as if there are just too many of them floating around that it's been getting weird. I mean, come on, what is 2009? Marriage year? Rhetoric, purely rhetoric.

On the good side, it's a fun-joyous occasion where relatives and friends get together, gives people like me the opportunity to wear traditional garments (not to mention dressing up), it's a great time to whip out the camera and snap some of the most gorgeous pictures of intricate wedding decorations (such as the Bunga Telur and the Dowry stuff in the shots up above), and the perfect opportunity for many to fill their already-bulging middle sections with ever-fattening Malay delicacies - haha, you're maybe wondering if this is a good point? Well it is, to the majority of my relatives; sadly not me. To be truthful, I don't hate Malay food, I just hate the fact that I can't eat most of it thanks to all the spicy-ness (I can't do chilli).

What I don't like about weddings though is pretty much because everytime there is one and I attend it, I always get this nagging feeling in the back of my mind that tells me I'm never going to be that 'special girl in white' on the altar. Weird reason, I know. But it's not the easiest thing to shake off. Let's hope my future proves me wrong.

Moving on, let's take a glimpse at more pictures, shall we?

I'm more than certain I've introduced my freaky nephew to most people by now through this blog. The little dude's pretty cheeky, sitting where he's not supposed to and nearly knocking down the Dowry items from their pillowed-trays half the time he was running about.

Still, he makes great entertainment.

Isn't that right, Adam?

Well, I took this picture pretty much because I didn't have a mirror and was trying to fix that troublesome selendang - the darn thing just wouldn't fall right so I gave up and settled for looking weird (if I did).

To those who kept pestering me to see what I looked like with a tudung on? Heh, lap it up cause that picture right there is the closest you'll get for a LONG time XP

So anyways, back to the event. Gotta say, I didn't have much of a clue of what the Kadi (spelling?) was reading/saying, being too far away. I guess Abang WanWan (yes, that is the nickname he has earned himself amongst his fellow cousins) and the witnesses were the only ones who were close enough to really hear anything.

This should give you an idea of how far away I was seated.

My cousin (the groom) is pretty far though I was reasonably close to the bride, Sue King (honestly never got around to spelling her name so this is pretty much a guess), who's new name is Alia (spelling...again! XP)?

As one can see, Adam really can't sit still. And so, I still think I don't want kids.

Presenting the bride with the Mas Kahwin (spelling? gosh!) once the contract was signed.

Then it's time for the rings exchange.

That's my bro, Raz and notorious cousin, Muffin taking the trays as they are, the night's respective Best Man and Maid of Honour.

There we go~

Maybe I should have Photoshop'ed Raz's head out of the picture?

Well, after the rings exchange, it was time for the...eh...blessings...right? I don't know much about weddings and some people do things differently in theirs so it does get kind of confusing sometimes.

There, the parents, aunts and uncles had to bless them with those flower petals and the (I think) scented water.

First come's Abang WanWan's mom, Aunty Aini.

His dad, Uncle Choong (what do I tell ya, I'm mixed-blood people~)

The bride's dad.

Followed by the bride's mom.

Aunt Lucy (Uncle Choong's sister).

Uncle Yusoff (Muffin's dad).

Aunt Nasreen (Muffin's mom).

Uncle Jo (Azreena's dad - another one of my cousins).

Then, Azreena's mom (I really have no clue how to spell her name...makes me wonder why I never asked o_O).

My dad.

My mom.

Abang Nazlee (Abang WanWan's older bro and Adam's dad).

And Adam with his mom, Lily (another nickname, mind you).

Figured I'd take a shot of the rest of the onlooking relatives and friends.

That's my cousin Azreena in the center by the way, who thankfully (though quite unexpectedly) relieved me of Bunga Telur duty for the night, lol - there was no dress rehearsal and no one gave me the darn cue XP

With the main event over and done with, it was face-stuffing time so everyone headed out to dine on the front porch.

Now I wasn't sure what my focus was on when I took this shot: either the food or the people, take your pick.

It was the people in this one - more of my relatives, Uncle Bun, Aunty Pah and Syarafina.

The cool tent which I never got to go under - just kinda forgot, lol XP

And so with bellies stuffed (not really for me since I couldn't eat the loads of the food available), what wedding would be complete without some family pictures? Though most in the hands of the hired photographer. These were all I got:

The bride and groom with their respective parents.

The four cousins (MinMin is unfortunately missing the event since she's off in Perth for varsity life).

So here's an almost-complete picture of Muffin's family (minus MinMin).

Note: (from left to right) Muffin, Aunt Nasreen, Uncle Yusoff, and Yaya.

And last but not least, me and my family (minus Cessy) XP

Congratulations to the happy couple!!~

The rest is still unwritten...
